Description

Create detailed character concepts while developing your knowledge of voxel-sculpting and the Digital Clay paradigm pioneered by 3D Coat. This course, Character Concept and Sculpting Techniques in 3D Coat, is an intermediate course where you'll learn how to do just that by creating a character from Stephen R. Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant series: the evil Ur-vile. In this course, you'll explore 3D Coat's many sculpting toolsets as well as character concept creation and execution. You'll also learn how to use both voxels and surface modeling to bring this character sculpt to life. By the end of this course, your sculpting skills will be sharpened and you'll be better equipped to create your own character concepts in the future. Software required: 3D Coat 4.5.40 and Cura

Hi everyone, Eric Kunzendorf here! Welcome to my course Character Concept and Sculpting Techniques in 3D Coat I am an Associate Professor of Animation at Jacksonville University, and I have over two decades successfully teaching modeling and animation at the college level.

In this course, we are going to explore 3D Coat’s Voxel and Surface sculpting paradigms while sculpting a character bust of an Ur-vile, a villainous creature from Stephen R. Donaldson’s Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever fantasy series. I’ll discuss various strategies to help you master this program, which is as close to true digital clay as any piece of software on the market today.

In this course, we will cover
1. Setting up and maneuvering around the workspace using the numeric keypad.
2. Voxel vs. Surface sculpting paradigms
3. Boolean operations using primitives, brushes and Vox Layers
4. Surface shading and model spin rendering in 3D Coat’s Render “room.”
5. And preparing the sculpted bust for 3D printing using Cura.

By the end of this course, you will gone a long way in mastering this complex, yet fun program.

Before beginning this course it would be helpful for you should have some familiarity with digital sculpting, preferably with 3D Coat, but it isn’t required. If you have any familiarity with ZBrush,Mudbox or Sculptris, that works too!

I hope you’ll join me on this journey to learn this new approach to digital clay sculpting at Pluralsight. So Let’s Get Started!
